Sustainability is a journey…

Right now all of the water for the property is sourced from rainwater with back up from a local creek. Wastewater is recycled on site, using a biocycle system in Ironbark House (the evaporation bed is a favourite place for the kangaroos to feed!) and a composting toilet in the Cottage.

Energy is our next project. We currently have two solar arrays used to offset our main energy usage (the pool pump). In the future we plan on further investing in larger solar arrays with battery technology to completely offset our power needs.

We are lucky to be located in beautiful scribbly gum and blackbutt forest which grades to swamp oak at the river edge. We spend a great deal of time on manual weed removal (principally of the introducted bitou bush and casia). The garden around the houses is pricipally of non native though, fire resistant vegetation.
